Nepsis Institute Stem Cell Therapy Program
Nepsis Institute is the only private stem cell operation approved by the State Health Department of Baja, California, Mexico (ISESALUD). The Deputy Director of the Department of Health works closely with Nepsis Institute personnel.
The chief treating physician-surgeon (Fernando Ramirez Del Rio, MD) is English fluent, has more than 2 decades experience doing xenotransplants and more than 5 years using cord blood stem cells, and holds impeccable earned credentials in both medicine and surgery (Mexico, UK and USA)
The Nepsis Institute program’s patient educator-liaison, Dr. Anthony G. Payne has more than 5 years involvement in clinical research involving cord blood stem cells and is the author of a book on umbilical cord stem cell therapy.
The treating clinic is located right next to the US (San Diego)-Mexico border in one of the most secure areas of Tijuana.
The research physicians who are part of the Nepsis Institute program presently utilize 2 primary forms of stem cells to treat patients:
1. Enhanced Marrow-isolated adult multilineage inducible (MIAMI) cells and other bone marrow derived multilineage cells
These cells are extracted from a very small bone marrow sample (~3 milliliters), are transformed into precursor cells and then rapidly expanded in the lab using a patent pending new approach. They are then modified in a way that makes them zero in on the tissue or organ being treated. For example, in patients with Multiple Slerosis, the MIAMI and other marrow derived multilineage cells are 'programmed' to target the Central Nervous System, engraft and become myelin-secreting cells. These disease-specific cells are then placed in the patient by IV, catheter, implant, etc.
2. Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPS) - Wikipedia entry
Liver cells are removed from patients and then transformed into pluripotent stem cells without the use of viruses or potentially cell damaging harsh chemical compounds. The technology utilized to pull this off is the patent pending brainchild of a group of American scientists and technicians which is exclusively licensed to Nepsis-Mexico.
