      Dear GMX:

First, I have a few introductions, then a little history of how our operation works, and then why GMX Water Conditioners have become a way of life for us. My husband Eddie is a truck driver for Walmart. He is currently on a job share program--he works a week and then is home a week. Our children are Cristopher 23, who is going to school and living on his own.; Dane, 14; and Abbie, 11.
My job is mother, farmer, veterinary, taxi, gardener, 4-H leader and other duties as assigned. My family and I live in California, Missouri, on a 300 acre grass farm. We raise purebred Gelbvieh cattle and are contract growers for honeysuckle White. In our turkey barns we raise 12,000 tons and have about 6 flocks a year. Plus we have the essentials for every farm--3 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats. Needless to say, we keep very busy.
We began looking into water conditioning alternatives this year when the water softener broke AGAIN. We also decided to do something about the rest of the water on the farm because we constantly battle hard water buildup in our equipment. We have two wonderful wells on our farm that are clean and have good volume but also have very hard water. We always knew when the water softener was on the blink again as Dane would get out of the shower and proclaim "that water is so hard that it feels like rocks are hitting me on the back."
The hard water makes life in the turkey barns very challenging. In the brood barn we have several hundred nipple drinkers that the poults peck to get water. The hard water either causes them to stay open so the water runs out, or seals them shut so they won't open. In the growout barn, we have over 100 bell drinkers that the water flows out of into a dish for the big turkeys to drink from. These bell drinkers get covered with lime scale that closes up the opening that the water pours from. The lime scale mixes with the dust in the air so the lime not only looks bad, but it isn't healthy because of the junk mixed with it as well.
When the turkeys need medication, this is done through their water. Some of the medicine won't mix with the hard water. It separates and the turkeys don't get the full effect of the medicine.
Our other major water fixture is the fogger line. When the temperature is hot, we turn on the fogger line that constantly mists the birds, and the fans then blow them to keep them cooler. We have to maintain a couple hundred of these nozzles by sticking a needle in the tiny hole for the mist to come out, so just imagine what hard water does to them. When we use the fogger lines, it is crucial that they work and work well.
We decided we had to have something to make our life easier concerning the hard water situation. We shopped and decided to try the GMX Water Conditioners.
After one week of conditioned water, the bell drinkers were cleaning themselves of the lime scale. The nipple lines work and we don't have leaky spots on the litter, and most important of all the fogger lines are working with a perfect spray pattern and the turkeys are cooler and happier.
Not only do our barns look healthier, they are. The medicine mixes with the conditioned water and the medicators work wonderfully. Normally, we would have to go in with hammers, pound the lime scale off, and then wash the scale that we couldn't pound off with citric acid to dissolve it. I am excited that I have one or two more days for things I want to do instead of spending it pounding off lime scale so my turkeys can be healthy.
We have now put the GMX water conditioners on the water lines to the outside faucets around the cow barn. We have show cattle that we bathe. Getting the soap out of a 1,200 pound animal that isn't really excited about being bathed is quite a show in itself. If the soap gets left in, it irritates their skin and then their hair isn't manageable.
The soap residue is horrible on our clipper blades. For the pens of show cattle we have continuous fill values on their tanks of water. If the hard water builds up, the valve doesn't shut off and there is a mud hole where your freshly bathed animal has to stand to get groomed. With GMX conditioned water, we are happy and the cows are happy.
Now that we have all the animals on conditioned water, it's finally back to our house. About all I can say is "I love it!" No more carrying in salt (which I never liked in the first place) and no more repairmen to fix the nearly new water softener. Our water tastes fresh and our ice cubes are crystal clear.
With unconditioned water, a glass of ice water looked like one of the snow toys with snowflakes floating around--not anymore. We have more hot water because the lime scale isn't filling up the water heater anymore. These are the results even after having a water softener. Eddie is happiest because now his coffee pot pours a steady stream and doesn't require cleaning out.
We have put the GMX Water Conditioners to some new challenges and they have passed with flying colors! We are much happier because our life is a lot easier now just because of GMX Water Conditioners.
